Living off the L’AND in Portugal

October 22, 2012

Destinations, Europe

Imagine lounging by the pool on a beautiful, sunny afternoon, glass of wine in hand,  surrounded by vineyards. Sounds pretty much perfect, doesn’t it? I thought so too. After trying to keep up with the late night habits of the locals in Lisbon, L’AND Vineyards Resort was the perfect place to unwind. Peace, tranquility and total relaxation are what you’ll get when you pay a visit to L’AND.

L’AND was recently included in both the Conde Nast Hot List 2012 and Travel + Leisure’s It List 2012 and for good reason. Situated less than an hour east of Lisbon in the Alentejo region, it feels like you’re a world away as you wander around the property.

Suites in this small resort are extremely spacious and no detail is overlooked. From the in-room iPad, to the skylight above the bed, to the gigantic bathroom (complete with rain shower, massive bathtub and his and hers sinks), they seem to have thought of everything. Oh, and did I mention, they even have their own scented body products?

The resort is also a functioning winery, which we had the opportunity to explore. Unfortunately, with our non-existent Portuguese and a guide who spoke little English, I missed out on most of what was said. However, the wine was still delicious!

The property also has a vineotherapy spa and fantastic restaurant on site. However, you’ll have to forget about the gym since there isn’t one on site and let yourself indulge. You can work out when you get home!  If you’re looking to get out and explore, the nearby historical town of Evora (a UNESCO site), makes for an afternoon well spent.

Evora’s main square

There are literally ruins found right smack in the middle of town. Capela dos Ossos, the Chapel of Bones, is also well worth a peak while you’re there!

I was in Evora about this time of year 3 years ago. A distant but beautiful memory. (that’s what photos are for)
